Determination of Friendship Intensity between Online Social Network Users Based on Their Interaction

    Get PDF
Online social networks (OSN) are one of the most popular forms of modern communication and among the best known is Facebook. Information about the connection between users on the OSN is often very scarce. It's only known if users are connected, while the intensity of the connection is unknown. The aim of the research described was to determine and quantify friendship intensity between OSN users based on analysis of their interaction. We built a mathematical model, which uses: supervised machine learning algorithm Random Forest, experimentally determined importance of communication parameters and coefficients for every interaction parameter based on answers of research conducted through a survey. Taking user opinion into consideration while designing a model for calculation of friendship intensity is a novel approach in opposition to previous researches from literature. Accuracy of the proposed model was verified on the example of determining a better friend in the offered pair

Intelligent data sources and integrated data repository as a foundation for business intelligence analysis

Abstract: Data mining and data analysis in general demonstrate high dependency on data quality. Gathering the right data of high enough quality takes most of researcher’s time and often demonstrates need for some additional data to be parsed. In order to eliminate or at least reduce required effort for this first phase of every analysis, authors of this paper present the idea of Integrated Data Repository and Intelligent Data Source. Concepts of those components are presented and approach to their development is suggested together with the high-level view of the system architecture. Finally, an experimental implementation is described

Modelling of the athlete\u27s training decision support

Unosom odgovarajućih treninga i povratnih informacija u bazu i skladište podataka ovog sustava, omogućava se dubinska i OLAP analiza ostvarenih rezultata. In every training process it is of great importance to generate a quality program for athletic preparations. Systematic monitoring of an athlete’s sport performance does not end when the program is created. This study shows modelling of athlete’s training decision support. Based on created data model and with the application of ICT technologies, in this paper is presented the development of an expert telematic system, which creates an individual program for the training of athletes considering his/her current abilities and potentials, together with his/her maximal aerobic capacity, VO2max factor. Inputting proper training and feedback information in database and in Data Warehouse of this system allows the program to conduct OLAP and Data Mining of the achieved results. Prompt divulgation of symptoms that indicate over(under)training of an individual enables the system to modify the training process in real time. In that way athletes can perform better and the chances for injury/trauma and for inadequate results are reduced

Development of the integral referral Information System on Investigations of the Adriatic Sea, with built-in functional and organizational aspects of the performed investigations, is described. According to the selected development method, adapted to the software available CASE (Computed Aided System Engineering) »POSE« & RDBMS (Relational DataBase Management System) »INGRES«, the Information System (IS) has been designed and implemented. The IS design process is described in detail. The system was subdivided into three subsystems: POM (Project Organization Module), EOM (Expedition Organization Module), and SPMM (Sampling and Parameter Measurements Module). The necessary entities and their relationships were defined using the E-R (Entity-Relationship) diagram concept. The integral E-R diagram was transformed into a set of 3NF (Third Normal Form) relation schemes. The SQL (Structured Query Language) command file was generated and started in the INGRES, producing a relational database scheme. The integrity constraints were built into the database by defining 87 SQL procedures and 146 rules for 61 relation schemes. Therefore, the database integrity control could be performed while the data were inserted. The developed application is based on hierarchically organized frames (Menu, Browse and Report), allowing the information flow (»top- down«) between them. The application enables data presentation in space and time under user-defined conditions. The verification of the system was performed using real data from three research projects

Metadata-driven SOA-based application for facilitation of real-time data warehousing

Abstract. Service-oriented architecture (SOA) has already been widely recognized as an effective paradigm for achieving integration of diverse information systems. SOA-based applications can cross boundaries of platforms, operation systems and proprietary data standards, commonly through the usage of Web Services technology. On the other side, metadata is also commonly referred to as a potential integration tool given the fact that standardized metadata objects can provide useful information about specifics of unknown information systems with which one has interest in communicating with, using an approach commonly called "model-based integration". This paper presents the result of research regarding possible synergy between those two integration facilitators. This is accomplished with a vertical example of a metadata-driven SOA-based business process that provides ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Loading) and metadata services to a data warehousing system in need of a real-time ETL support

Logical design of data warehouses from XML

Abstract—Data warehouse is a database that collects and integrates data from heterogeneous sources in order to support a decision making process. Data exchanged over the Internet and intranets has recently become an important data source, having XML as a standard format for exchange. The possibility of integrating available XML data into data warehouses plays an important role in providing enterprise managers with up-to-date and relevant information about their business domain. We have developed a methodology for data warehouse design from the source XML Schemas and conforming XML documents. As XML data is semi-structured, data warehouse design from XML brings many particular challenges. In this paper the final steps of deriving a conceptual multidimensional scheme are described, followed by the logical design, where a set of tables is created according to the derived conceptual scheme. A prototype tool has been developed to test and verify the proposed methodology. I

This is the anniversary edition of Brooks\u27s authoritative book The Mythical Man-Month whose first edition appeared already in 1975. In it the author elaborates on the methodology of software development and tribulations of software project management based on his vast personal experience in this domain. In fact, the undertitle of the book - Essays on Software Engineering - is its best description, Brooks being concerned primarily with productivity in developing large software systems. The book is written very clearly and shows deep insight into this problem, using an informal style to present individual issues and related conclusions, thus making reading it a pure delight
